Emmi's cultural commitment on Swiss National Day

A thank you from Emmi to Switzerland on 1 August

Lucerne, 26 July 2010 - Switzerland celebrates its birthday next Sunday. Together with internationally renowned light artist Gerry Hofstetter, Emmi is giving the Swiss population a special present to mark the occasion: the artist will illuminate well-known buildings in all four corners of the country on 1 August 2010. The light installations play on the new imagery of the Emmi umbrella brand.

As the leading Swiss milk processor, Emmi has strong ties to Swiss agriculture and the Swiss population. Some 6,500 milk producers supply the key raw material for the wide range of Emmi dairy products that provide pleasurable moments every day for a majority of the Swiss population. A special thank you with country-wide illuminations is intended to emphasize these ties to Switzerland. Emmi is sponsoring the internationally renowned light artist Gerry Hofstetter and his inspiring light installations on Swiss National Day.

All four corners of Switzerland shine
On 1 August 2010, the artist will illuminate well-known buildings in all four corners of the country:

  • German-speaking Switzerland, Lucerne (Lucerne): Hotel Montana and Hotel Palace; with alphorn players
  • Romansch-speaking Switzerland, Surselva in Val Sumvitg/Greina (Graubünden): Terri hut; with bonfire
  • Italian-speaking Switzerland, Ascona (Ticino): Romantikhotel Castello; with fireworks
  • French-speaking Switzerland, Veytaux (Vaud) Chillon Castle; with brunch

Robin Barraclough, Head of Marketing, Emmi Group: "The simultaneous illuminations in Lucerne, Graubünden, Ticino and Vaud express the shared identity of the cantons and Emmi's ties with Switzerland. The typical national symbols that Gerry Hofstetter is using for the illuminations will trigger a real sense of national pride. It's a thank you to our loyal suppliers and consumers." The light installations will each begin at around 9.30 p.m. and last until midnight. Emmi is acting as a cultural sponsor for this extraordinary event. Gerry Hofstetter: "I have found the perfect partner for the 1 August illuminations in Emmi: a Swiss company producing typical Swiss products made from Swiss milk."

Emmi's new range of images and products
The light installations will play on Emmi's new imagery, among other things. This is based on harmonious mountain scenery and numerous typical Swiss symbols. Red and white are the dominant colours. The redesign of some 150 familiar Emmi products will make it easier for consumers to find Emmi products in the chiller cabinet in future. The repackaged products will be available in stores from August 2010.

About the Emmi umbrella brand
The entire product range of milk processor Emmi is being repositioned under the "Emmi" umbrella brand. Typical Swiss symbols and the silhouette of a mountain peak in the dominant colours red and white are the key elements of the packaging. Products from the yoghurt, desserts, ice cream, natural cheese, fondue, raclette, mozzarella, milk, cream and butter segments are marketed as part of the "Emmi" range. The uniform "Swiss-look" design has all the benefits of an umbrella brand and aims to increase consumer awareness. The redesigned "Emmi" range of products will be available from August 2010 in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
